Conflict Resolution Day Information & Tools
Check Out These Unique Features and Contests:
We're really looking forward to this year's International Conflict Resolution Day, set for October 15th. As part of our involvement, we hope you'll take a look at our new 2009-2010 Teacher Calendar, filled with great ideas for use in a classroom or youth program. Also please be aware that we've been building some fun online interactives with conflict resolution content that might work well as a conflict resolution day activity for students. Here's a link to the ever-evolving interactive game collection. Finally, why not sign up now for your chance to win copies of two great Conflict Resolution video games (Cool School and Harmony Island) for use in your classroom or youth training. We'll do the drawing on October 15th, Conflict Resolution Day 2009.
A sampler of some of the Conflict Resolution Day events happening around the world this year is viewable here. If you are interested in doing something for Conflict Resolution Day where you are, check out this toolkit for planning school-based Conflict Resolution Day events: click here to download or here to view it online. There are also downloadable CR Day posters available in 6 different language available at the main ACR CR Day page (scroll down when you get there). Right up until the actual day it is not too late to plan something! And a special thanks to all of you who had students participate in the CR Day poetry contest (now closed). The ACR CR Day committee received more than 150 entries from around the country and the world and the judges are now hard at work trying to choose the winners from such a great collection of poems! A sampling of the poems will be on display at the national Association for Conflict Resolution conference happening in Atlanta October 7-10, so the students' work will be appreciated by many.

Webinar: Behind the Scenes With Cool School and Harmony Island
Webinar With Conflict Resolution Game Developers
This online event, part of the International Conflict Resolution Day celebrations, will feature conversation with some of the people behind Cool School (a K-3 appropriate game on resolving conflicts in school) and Harmony Island (a 6-12 appropriate game teaching CR skills in a tropical setting). Our confirmed guests include F.J. Lennon, a games industry veteran who worked on Cool School, Melanie Killen Ph.D. from the University of Maryland (developer of the age-appropriate scenarios in Cool School) and Richard Goldsworthy Ph.D., CEO/Director of Academic Edge, Inc, the producers of Harmony Island. You won't want to miss it. As a special bonus, a drawing will be held on October 15th (CR Day) where we will be giving away multiple copies of these two great games. Join us at the webinar and find out more. You can register to attend the webinar at the link below.

New CRE Teachers Calendar Released!
Full-sized Calendar Especially For Teachers
Working in partnership with the Association for Conflict Resolution’s Education Section, the CRE Connection has produced a lovely full-sized calendar designed especially for teachers interested in promoting conflict resolution in their schools. It is available for online viewing here, and can be downloaded (large filesize warning!) via the “More” menu found in the upper left of the document viewer.
The calendar, designed to be hung by a teacher’s desk, provides short takes on CRE tools each month along with corresponding Special Days related to conflict resolution or peacemaking, CRE catalog resources, online links to the CRE website and other great collections of classroom activities and professional development tools. The calendar skips the summer and ends with the month of September to welcome folks back to the new school year!
