The Association for Conflict Resolution is hosting a free national teleconference in honor of Conflict Resolution Day on October 22, 1-2:15 pm (eastern). The teleconference, which is geared to undergraduate and graduate students in conflict and/or peace studies, is titled “How Can I Make a Better World? Ken Fox - Fox is Director of graduate and undergraduate conflict studies and an associate professor in the School of Business at Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He also is a senior fellow of Hamline University School of Law’s Dispute Resolution Institute and an associate of the Institute for the Study of Conflict Transformation, a nonprofit affiliate of Hofstra School of Law, James Madison University, Temple University and the University of North Dakota. Fox teaches a full range of conflict theory and theory-to- practice courses to undergraduate, graduate and law students. He also has taught, trained and consulted throughout the United States in a variety of settings, including courts, federal, state and local government agencies, regulated industries, schools, universities, workers compensation programs and private and community organizations.
Ahmed K. Sirleaf II - Sirleaf is Program Associate in the International Justice program at the Advocates for Human Rights. A human rights advocate and scholar, Sirleaf has a special interest in efforts to implement transitional justice initiatives in societies that have experienced severe violence. He holds an M.A. in International Law and the Settlement of Disputes from the University for Peace (United Nations mandated) in San Jose, Costa Rica, and a B.A. in Legal Studies from Hamline University in St. Paul, Minnesota. He has studied at the International Center for Transitional Justice and New York University School of Law through their joint transitional justice Essentials Course. He also has studied at the Center for Restorative Justice and Peacemaking at the University of Minnesota’s School of Social Work and Human Ecology.
Dr. Craig Zelizer - Zelizer is Associate Director of the Conflict Resolution MA Program in the Department of Government at Georgetown University. His areas of expertise include working with youth from violent conflict regions, civil society development and capacity building in transitional societies, program evaluation and design, working on conflict sensitivity and mainstreaming across development sectors, the connection between trauma and conflict, the role of the private sector in peacebuilding, and arts and peacebuilding. Dr. Zelizer has worked extensively throughout Central and Eastern Europe and Latin America with diverse groups including civil society members, educators, youth, government officials, etc. To date, he has worked in more than 14 countries, helped train hundreds of individuals in conflict resolution processes and facilitated several long-term dialogue processes.
The call will be moderated by Sharon Press, Director of the Dispute Resolution Institute at Hamline University in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Press served for 18 years as director of the Florida Dispute Resolution Center. She has been an adjunct professor, teaching mediation theory and general ADR survey courses at Florida State University College of Law, Hamline University School of Law, Capital University Law School and the University of Nevada Las Vegas Law School. Press was the inspiration for ACR’s creation of Conflict Resolution Day and has served as the chair for ACR’s Conflict Resolution Day programming.
